TikTok accounts hold years of videos and, for creators, real income. Recovery is straightforward when your phone number or email is still linked — and much harder when it is not. Act through the official app only.
1. Reset with phone or email
- Open TikTok → Log in → Use phone / email / username.
- Choose Forgot password? and pick phone or email.
- Enter the code sent to you and set a new strong password.
2. Still logged in somewhere? Fix it from inside
If any device is still logged in, go to Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Security: update your password, check linked phone/email, review active sessions and remove unknown devices before they remove you.
3. Account hacked and details changed
Use the login help options in the app and follow the account-recovery prompts TikTok shows for compromised accounts. Report the problem through Settings and privacy → Report a problem → Account and profile if the normal reset fails, using the email that was originally on the account and describing exactly what changed and when.
4. Turn on extra protection
- Enable 2-step verification in Security settings (SMS, email or authenticator as offered).
- Link both a current phone number and an email you control.
- Review third-party apps connected to the account and remove unknown ones.
- Never buy followers or log in through follower-booster sites — they are the top source of stolen creator accounts.
Frequently asked questions
I changed my phone number. Can I still recover?
If your email is linked, reset by email. If you are logged in on any device, update the number from Security settings first. With neither, use the in-app report flow and provide the original account details.
How long does TikTok support take?
It varies from days to longer for complex hacked cases. Submit one complete report with accurate details and keep checking the same email — duplicate reports do not speed things up.
Will resetting the password log out the hacker?
Change the password, then review and remove unknown sessions/devices in Security settings and turn on 2-step verification — together these close the account to the other person.
