Almost every job application, university admission and government form in Pakistan now asks for a PDF — of your CNIC, certificates, CV or a signed form. You do not need a computer or a paid app. Your phone already has everything; here are the cleanest free methods, best first.

Method 1: Google Drive scan — best for documents and CNIC (Android & iPhone)

  1. Open the Google Drive app → tap + New → Scan.
  2. Point the camera at the document on a flat, well-lit surface. Drive finds the edges automatically — tap the shutter.
  3. Adjust corners if needed, choose colour, and scan the next page the same way — all pages go into one PDF.
  4. Tap Save, name it clearly (e.g. Ahmed-Khan-CNIC.pdf), and it is stored in Drive as a proper PDF you can share anywhere.

Method 2: Photos to PDF from the Gallery (Android)

  1. Open Gallery / Google Photos and select the photos (in the order you want them in the PDF).
  2. Tap Share → Print (in some galleries: More → Print).
  3. At the top printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
  4. Tap the PDF/save button and pick where to save. Done — one PDF with all selected photos as pages.

Method 3: iPhone — Notes scan and Files print

For a document: Notes app → new note → camera icon → Scan Documents → scan all pages → Save; then share the note as PDF. For existing photos: open Photos → select → Share → Print → pinch-out (zoom) on the preview to turn it into a PDF, then share/save to Files.

Method 4: Word / CV to PDF

Made your CV in Word or Google Docs? Do not photograph it. Open the file → menu → Share / Export → Save as → PDF (Google Docs: Share & export → Save as → PDF document). Exported PDFs keep text sharp and selectable — photographed documents look unprofessional and are often rejected for blurriness.

Make it acceptable the first time: Shoot in daylight or bright light, keep the paper flat with all four corners visible, wipe the camera lens first, and rename the file with your name and document type. Then open the PDF once and zoom in — if you cannot read the CNIC number, the checker cannot either; rescan.

Reduce PDF size if the form has an upload limit

Many portals accept only 1–2 MB. Scan in "Black & white" or lower quality in Drive scan settings for text documents, avoid scanning in full colour photo mode, and keep only the pages asked for. If a PDF is still too large, Drive-scan again at document quality rather than using random "PDF compressor" websites with your CNIC.

Privacy warning: Never upload your CNIC, certificates or passport to unknown free "online PDF converter" websites — you are handing copies of your identity documents to strangers. All four methods above work on your phone, offline, without sending your documents anywhere new.

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine two PDFs into one on my phone?

Google Drive scan is the practical way: scan all pages/documents in one scanning session and they save as a single PDF. For two existing PDF files, the free Adobe Acrobat app (Combine files) works — avoid random merging websites for personal documents.

Why was my PDF rejected by the job/admission portal?

The three usual reasons: file larger than the portal limit, pages in the wrong order or missing, or a blurry photo-scan. Re-export or rescan following this guide, check the stated MB limit, and open the final PDF to verify every page before uploading.

Can I make a PDF without installing any app?

Yes. Android users already have Google Drive and the Gallery print-to-PDF method; iPhone users have Notes scan and Files. No extra app is needed for normal documents.
